Friends I hope you all are doing great and I also Hope you all are doing your riyaaz regularly. So I am back again today with a very important topic that is understanding of different octaves and root note. Yes as I promised you guys that I will post about choosing the standard singing scale and I will posting it in my next blog. It is one of the biggest questions that are asked with everyone who is teaching music. What scale should we opt for singing? What scale should we do our vocal exercises that is riyaaz? On what scale should we sing? How to sing high notes? I will try to answer these questions in this blog,if any one remains then I will cover it in the upcoming blog for sure. Now to understand what scale should we choose for singing, First we will have to understand few basic terms. So without wasting anytime, Let's get in to it.
SOME BASIC TERMS -
1) ROOT NOTE - Root note is simply the note from where our scale starts. In indian Music, It is also know as "SA". I hope you already know it. If you do not know I already told you. Root note is the first note of the octave that is "SA".
2) OCTAVE - I hope you all remember about the SAPTAK. SAPTAK contains 7 notes. Similarly OCTAVE contains the first 8 notes that is -
SA - RE - GA - MA - PA - DHA - NI - SA.
All the notes above are collectively one OCTAVE. On a harmonium or a keyboard, OCTAVES can be classified as "Lower octaves , Middle octaves and Higher octaves". Now we will discuss them one by one and will try to understand each one of them.
a) LOWER OCTAVE - Consider your Harmonium or Keyboard, the notes that are available at the top left are the notes of the lower octave. I hope you got it.
b) MIDDLE OCTAVE - The notes which are present at the middle of your keyboard or harmonium are notes of the middle octave.
c) HIGHER OCTAVE - The notes which are present at the right of the harmonium of keyboard are termed as the notes of higher octave. I hope you all are understanding what I am trying to say.
So guys that's it in this blog. I will tell you how to choose your singing scale in my next blog, so stay tuned for that. Thank You!!!!
