Hello guys, I hope you all are good and I also hope that you all are doing your daily riyaaz. I don't think I need to tell you every time about the importance of the riyaaz when I post a new blog but still once again I would like to add that if you do not do your vocal riyaaz daily, you cannot become a good singer. To become a good singer, doing vocal riyaaz is as important as oxygen to live. Understand the value of doing riyaaz. Riyaaz must not be underestimated. So today we will again be talking about some more fundamental concepts of indian classical vocal music. I will discuss them one by one but before that I would suggest that all the concepts or points I tell you, please write them in a separate notebook. Of course I am not saying to write the whole blog but I am just saying to write only the necessary point that are required. It will give to ease to go back to the concept if you forget something. If you do not want to do that it is fine as my blogs are available for your reference. So without wasting any more time I will tell you about some more basic concepts.
Today we will be focusing on understanding the nature and name of the notes when they are taken at low, medium and high note. But to understand that we will first have to understand about the term saptak.
1) SAPTAK - It basically means that first 7 swaras comprise of one saptak. To understand it more efficiently. The swaras start from SA and goes till NI that is - SA - RE - GA - MA - PA - DHA - NI. One saptak comprise of this first 7 swaras from SA to NI. The next saptak starts from the SA that is taken from the NI that is the SA after the NI is the starting note of the next saptak. I hope you got it. "SAPTAK" is derived from the sanskrit language and it means seven.
Now let us move to some deeper details about the SAPTAK. Generally, There are three types of saptak that is -
a)"MANDRA" SAPTAK
b) "MADHYA" SAPTAK
c) "TAAR" SAPTAK
Now let us discuss all the different types of saptak -
1) MANDRA SAPTAK - Now read it carefully. The standard scale from which you do your daily riyaaz, it will start from SA and go to NI. Now see the details carefully, you know that SA swar is the starting of the next saptak, so the SA with which you do the riyaaz is also the next saptak, so if we go to the previous saptak from your SA- those notes or swaras will be the swaras of mandra saptak. I hope it is clear to you.So lower notes from your standard scale comes under MANDRA SAPTAK. If it is not I will try to elaborate it to you more clearly -
So onn←DHA - NI - (SA - RE - GA - MA - PA - DHA - NI -)

2) MADHYA SAPTAK - It is very easy to understand, the scale with which you do riyaaz or say your scale is the madhya saptak. So the Madhya Saptak comprises form your SA to NI or say SA To next SA (as we complete one pattern that is alankaar with next SA). So simply -
MADHYA SAPTAK - SA - RE - GA - MA - PA - DHA - NI - SA.
3) TAAR SAPTAK - The TAAR SAPTAK are the swaras from your high SA that is ending SA that you take while doing AAROH. It starts from that SA and goes beyond it. For better understanding, have a look at the swar range of the madhya saptak. Now see the last SA that I have written after NI is the starting note for tha TAAR SAPTAK. I hope you got it but still I will make the swaras range for your better understanding.
